The Power of Your Love

The next entry for my Blog is The Power of Your Love by Hillsong and first released in 1992. The original lyrics were written by Geoff Bullock.  A link to Hillsong performing the song is at the bottom of the Blog.

The Power of Your Love

Lord I come to You
Let my heart be changed, renewed
Flowing from the grace
That I’ve found in You
Lord I’ve come to know
The weaknesses I see in me
Will be stripped away
By the power of Your love

Hold me close
Let Your love surround me
Bring me near
Draw me to Your side
And as I wait
I’ll rise up like the eagle
And I will soar with You
Your Spirit leads me on
In the power of Your love

Lord unveil my eyes
Let me see You face to face
The knowledge of Your love
As You live in me
Lord renew my mind
As Your will unfolds in my life
In living every day
By the power of Your love

Chorus

Chorus

And I will soar with You
Your Spirit leads me on
In the power of Your love
And I will soar with You
Your Spirit leads me on
In the power of Your love

It seems as if people have been writing books forever on the topic of how to improve their lives. There are videos, books, seminars, and more internet links than you could probably research in a lifetime; and there is probably some merit in all of these. The disappointment comes when, no matter how much we research and learn, we still have a hole in our heart, a gap in our knowledge, and realize we haven’t gotten the answer we needed. Some people look for this silver bullet their entire lives.

The answer we are seeking can only be found in Christ. This song tells us exactly what we need to do to find the answer we seek. The steps we need to take are the ones that take us to the love of Jesus. He alone can change our lives into a life of promises that will come true. He doesn’t work from the outside in but from the inside out. Our hearts become full and change as the love of Jesus indwells us. We are no longer the same and have become new people with a renewed perspective. He takes away our guilt, our heartaches, and our burdens through his grace. His grace is an all-encompassing love that forgives every mistake we have ever made or will make. The great news is he doesn’t ask anything of us but to accept his love and the salvation he is offering. All of our weaknesses are gone, we now have a strength within us that can conquer every challenge and this strength comes from the power of the love of Jesus. It is so hard to understand how he loves us so much, no matter how long we have failed him or rejected him.

All we need to do is fall into the arms of Jesus. He is always standing there with his arms open wide, just waiting for us to come to him. As his arms wrap around us, we feel a love and peace greater than we could have ever imagined. His spirit radiates love and acceptance and has a power that nothing can overwhelm. It is very challenging to put this feeling and experience into words. The writer of this song compares this feeling to soaring like an eagle. An eagle is such a majestic bird that looks so beautiful as it soars effortlessly across the sky. The power of the love of Jesus can take us to a spiritual high and give us a peace that we never thought was possible. Isaiah 40:31 tells us the power that Jesus give us: “but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

As part of opening our heart and our lives to the power of the love of Jesus, we must focus on him and block out all distractions as much as possible. We need to see clearly from our heart through our eyes; we need to see Jesus in the way he wants us to see him. We will see him in others, we will sense his presence, we will feel his love; all of this is a part of truly seeing. When Jesus departed for his home in heaven, he left the Holy Spirit with those who accept him as their personal savior. The Holy Spirit dwells in us and through the spirit, we feel the love of Jesus and know that all the knowledge we need to gain peace is actually deep within us. As we continue to draw closer to Christ, we become more focused on doing his will and living the life he commanded. As Jesus told Peter in John 14:15, “If you love me, keep my commandments.”

Every morning before we crawl out of bed, we need to thank Jesus for the power of his love and the comforter he has left with us.  With him by our side, we are now ready to face the day knowing we can overcome anything the world throws at us!
