Greater Things

My life is built on Your faithfulness
My hope is held in Your promises
I take each step with Your confidence
‘Cause I am Yours
I am Yours

You never fail
You never will
I trust Your name for greater things
You will come through
You always do
I trust Your name for greater things

You cleared a way in the wilderness
You brought me back from my brokenness
You took my shame and You buried it
What You’ve done
I won’t forget

You never fail
You never will
I trust Your name for greater things
You will come through
You always do
I trust Your name for greater things

You never fail
You never will
I trust Your name for greater things
You will come through
You always do
I trust Your name for greater things

I will not fear for You are with me
I’ve seen this fight from the victory
No power of hell could stand against me
‘Cause I’ve seen this from the victory, yeah

I will not fear for You are with me
I’ve seen this fight from the victory
No power of hell could stand against me
‘Cause I’ve seen this from the victory

You never fail
You never will
I trust Your name for greater things
You will come through
You always do
I trust Your name for greater things

What makes up the foundation for your life? Just like every house and every building needs to have a strong footing to stand the tests of time and nature, we need a strong foundation for our life. I believe we have all learned over time that we cannot survive alone in this world and that is why a firm foundation for life is needed. A constant in our lives is God’s faithfulness, he never fails us and he provides a base for us that can never be destroyed. By leaning on him, we cannot be defeated by anyone or anything. He has promised us eternal life through the death of his son and we find in the bible that his promises are always kept. There are many many stories of how the promises of God have come true, not only in the bible, but through the lives of those around us. With our faith and hope in him, we can move forward in our lives with confidence. Yep, we will face struggles, we will face temptations, and we will have lapses in our faith; but we can always know that he is there for us to lean upon and give us hope of a brighter tomorrow. As the writer says, we are his and his alone. Satan may distract us, our friends may lead us down the wrong path; but he will never leave our side and will bring us the hope and guidance we need when we turn to him again for hope and guidance. It is because of the love and power of God, that we can have confidence with every step of every journey we take in our lives, knowing that he is by our side to guide us and support us. Psalm 118:6-9 reminds us of the power of God, “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? The Lord is on my side as my helper; I shall look in triumph on those who hate me. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.”
God has never failed us and he never will. We are told this in Deuteronomy 31:8, “Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.” Because we have him as a foundation, a guide, and a leader; we are equipped to accomplish things that we could have only imagined before we let God into our lives. We are truly able to do greater things, all we have to do is put our trust in him.

The writer goes on to reference how God cleared a way in the wilderness. The bible tells in several passages how God took care of his people in the wilderness after the exodus from Egypt. We see how he fed the people every day, how their clothing lasted the entire time, and how he ultimately led them to their new home and out of bondage. He will also help lead us out of our wilderness. Our wilderness may not be the endless desert, but don’t we often look at our surrounding and have no idea what path to take to reach our goals or how to get out of the deep dark hole of despair we have fallen into? Just as the Israelites would have wandered aimlessly forever in the wilderness, don’t we do the same thing as we face the challenges in our lives? Each challenge we face that overcomes us adds to our despair and brokenness; sometimes it just seems never-ending. Our challenges cease to be never-ending when we trust in God to take our burdens. He carries the burdens for us, if we will only let him; and our load becomes so much lighter and allows us to focus once again on where he wants us to be in life. He allows us to hold our heads up high, despite our failures and falling away from his chosen path for us. All of our shame and our mistakes are gone, because he has erased our past and given us a new tomorrow.

I love the line, “I have seen this fight from the victory.” The awesome news is that the bible tells us not only some of the battles we will face in life, but it also tells us the end of the story. We know that Satan will ultimately be completely defeated, since he cannot successfully stand against God, and he will be removed from our presence forever. The end of our story is not really the end. We can perhaps visualize the end of the story of our life as it ends on earth, but I don’t believe we can even begin to understand the life prepared for us as we enter those heavenly gates.

Knowing that you have unlimited power with God by your side and the victory he brings to our daily challenges, what things can you accomplish that you had never dreamed possible? These are the greater things.

No Matter What

A lot of us grew up believing
At any moment we could lose it all
And at the drop of a hat
God might turn His back and move on
A lot of us feel like we blew it
Thinking that we’re just too far gone
But I want you to know
There’s still a hope for you now

No matter what you’ve done
You can’t erase His love
Nothing can change it
You’re not separated
No matter what

There’s never been a better time to get honest
There’s never been a better time to get clean
So come as you are
Run to the cross and be free
Oh, be free

No matter what you’ve done
You can’t erase His love
Nothing can change it
You’re not separated
No matter where you run
He’s always holding on
You’re still a daughter, you’re still a son
No matter what

 I don’t know what you’ve been taught
Don’t know what you’ve been told
All I know is my God
Will never let go of you, no
And I don’t know what you’ve seen
Don’t know what you’ve been through
All I know is my God
Will never let go of you
He’ll never let go!
He’ll never, never, never let you go

No matter what you’ve done
You can’t erase His love
Nothing can change it
You’re not separated
No matter where you run
He’s always holding on
You’re still a daughter, you’re still a son
No matter what

You’re still a daughter, you’re still a son!
No matter what

As children and perhaps in our adult years, many of us may believe or have believed that if we were not good enough, we would not go to heaven.  We have always heard that all of the bad people go to hell and good people go to heaven.  This could create a lot of anxiety for us and I know that I did something bad every day of my life.  Some wonder if the bad things they did could keep them from heaven.  One could also wonder if there are maybe degrees of bad and that some bad acts might still allow us to barely make it through the pearly gates and others would find out they would not make it in at all.  Just how much tolerance does God have for us and at what point have we missed the opportunity to spend eternity with him.   How many excuses does he allow from us?  There are many people who give up on God and many do so because they believe he has given up on them.  The good news is there is still hope for everyone.

John 3:16 tells us: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  This verse is essentially telling us that God was willing to send his only son to die for us so we could still come to heaven.  God knows we are not perfect and that each of us has done bad things in our lives, all he asks of us is that we accept Jesus as our Lord and savior and we are guaranteed to spend eternity with him.  In addition to this verse, we are told in Ephesians 2:8, For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.  With these two promises, we are told it is never too late to turn to Jesus and it doesn’t matter what we have done.  Isn’t this an awesome opportunity for each of us?  We have the promise of eternal life with Jesus if we only accept and believe in him as our savior.  Once we do this, all of our sins are forgiven and erased forever; God will never turn his back on us.

It is always difficult to admit the mistakes we have made; we are worried about what others will think about us.  If God is forgiving us for everything we have done, don’t you think it would be a great feeling of relief to just confess all of the bad things we have done in our lives to him?  He already knows everything we have done, but by confessing; we become free of the burden of carrying those mistakes.   The mistakes, or sins, died on the cross with Jesus; so, turn now to God and completely open your hearts to him.  Feel the love and the freedom that only he has the power to give.  Think about how great it would feel to be truly free, and the fact that you will never be separated from God again.  The battles ahead and the regrets of the past will still be there, but now you can know you are not alone and that your future home is there waiting for you.  We become his sons and his daughters for eternity.  Wow!

We have all had different experiences in our lives and we have been taught many different things through our interactions with others.  We come from different backgrounds and have walked different paths, but the one thing we have in common is that we have a God who loves us, is committed to us, and will never ever let us go once we have given ourselves to him.  His love for us will never change even though we will continue to change every day of our lives.  He will be with us on every path we take for the remainder of our days.    We will always be his sons and daughters.

No matter where you stand in your relationship with God, it is never to late to turn to him and accept his unfailing love and his forgiveness.
